OUR STORY

I get asked to speak at churches and youth groups and thought it was time I put up a website that covers some of the sermons and sermon series on offer and provide additional materials online. For booking a sermon or sermon series please contact me via email.

The messages fall into three general categories: expository, apologetic and popular culture.

1. The expository sermons and series explore the original message in its geographical, cultural & historical setting. They are overlain with contemporary illustrations and personal application. Of late these have included series on  Jesus' relationship with Herod's temple in the gospels, the Book of Jonah and the Epistle of Jude.

2. The apologetic messages answer questions on the reliability of the New Testament, the inspiration of the Bible and the historicity of Jesus. They are designed to answer modern concerns and can be topical in nature. Recent sermons have touched on the issues raised by Dan Brown's The Da Vince Code, the implications of widely touted Gnostic texts, and the marital status of Jesus.

3. Popular culture presentations examine Christian truths from the perspective of movies, music and television. In Acts 17 on Mars Hill, Paul communicated God's timeless message by way of two pagan poets (Act 17:28). In our own time he would have quoted the culture creators of the entertainment industries.  For good or ill, every week, more people everywhere are getting their worldviews shaped more by pixels than pastors. These sermons are designed to encourage thoughtful engagement with popular culture from a biblical worldview, as well as acting as a springboard for discussing matters of the soul. Movies covered in the last few years include obvious Christian-themed offerings such as The Chronicles of Narnia movies and more challenging series including Stephanie Mayer's Twilight collection and Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy.

This site also is home to my blog and Fight Club. The blog is not only the place where I share my thoughts on everything from apologetics to homiletics but is also for letting people know about upcoming events. Fight Club is a book club that is devoted to 'loving God with our mind.'
